18TH CENTURY PORTUGUESE MANUSCRIPT.

Memorias.

Written circa 1780s, with mention of various dates in the text, mainly 1770s and 1780s. Laid paper with two different watermarks, including a sun with lettering in the centre ' 'SADP' with initals beneath 'PB', as well as a crest with 'VORNO beneath. Bound in speckled calf with gilt lettering on upper cover 'Memorias', and raised bands and gilt ruling decoration to spine. Folios numbered in manuscript in top right corner recto from 1 to 72 (i.e. 144 pages]. Most of these leaves with manuscript in dark brown ink in a calligraphic, with a small number of blanks interspersed. Many pages with floriated initials at the start of the different sections.

Very Good condition. Generally well preserved. Complete as per page numbering in top corners of folios. Minor rubbing to binding, with the last few gilt letters on the upper cover rubbed away. Front blank inner pastedown with minor staining to the edges. Light age toning and spotting to first title page. A few minor scattered handling marks and blots. An attractive Portuguese manuscript from the 1780s, of a religious nature, which stands out for its calligraphy and floriated initials. We have not delved into its contents but have instead provided many high resolution gallery images.
