These amazing set of  wall plates from Portugal have the most incredible three dimensional detailing, featuring lobsters, crabs and shellfish, as well as sand and seaweed.

Made by Albert Jose Caldas da Rainha in the early 20th century with vibrant majolica glazed colours, and in the naturalist style of the 16th century French ceramicist, Pallisy. They have fantastic workmanship, and all are hand made. The attention to detail is wonderful, with lobster or crab sitting in the center of the plates, on a bed of sand, with claws and legs arched from the body to plate. Then surrounded by mussels and cockles, with seaweed formations.

There are 2 backstamped, with the others unstamped but identical in craftsmanship and colour, and conform with Albert Jose.

There are 4 different lobster plates and 2 crab plates, all with holes in the reverse base, and ready to hang.

In excellent condition.

The largest is 33cm, and smallest is 20cm.

These would be wonderful in a kitchen or dining room, and I have them for sale as a complete set.
