I have for sale an unusual theater-related item. It's a copy of the script for the play "Nervous Man and Man of Nerve" by William Bayle Bernard.

The copy is unusual because it most likely was used by the director or possibly stage manager.  The script has been separated into individual pages, and blank pages have been bound in between the pages of the script so notes can be made.  A rudimentary cover has been affixed.  The cover has the name of the play written in fountain pen and is labeled a "Prompt book".  The name John Gaisford is written in the same pen on the front cover - not sure if this is the same John Gaisford who went on to design theaters in the early 1900s.

I would guess this is from the late 1800s or early 1900s by the quality of the binding and the type of pen that was used, though there is no date anywhere on it.  The book was obviously used for an actual production.  There are hand-written notes all over it, and even notes at the very end about how long the first and second acts took during rehearsal. Pages are a little frayed around the edges but this is in pretty good shape for the quality of the binding and its age.
