We always have antique mechanical pencils and pens for sale ranging from the commonplace to the incredibly rare, so keep us pegged for more unique mechanisms and little-seen patent examples.

This is for a stunning large Georgian sterling silver Porte Crayon with an ornate hand engraved design on the silver. The silver carries a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks dating to Birmingham 1805 along with the initials S.P for Samuel Pemberton. It has the original ring slider that slides along its length to extend the wad when inserted. Just for those who do not know the porte crayon was the very earliest type of travelling pencil. It simply held either a piece of wad which is thick lead or a simple cedar pencil which just pushed into the ring inside the pencil. The matrix is engraved with a monogram and it is in excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, there are no dents, no splits or cracks, the engravings and hallmarks are all crystal clear and there are no repairs or restorations, its in fine form for a pencil which is over 200 years old. It measures an impressive 105mm (4") long by 12mm by 17mm (0.5") at the seal.
