It is used on the viewfinder monitor for fine tuning focus and composition in bright light conditions. Basically you place this over the LCD screen and the rubber hood blocks out extraneous light while you view the image through the loupe. The three glass elements in the loupe give you a bright, clear and sharp image. It can be adjusted +/- 3 diopters to match your eyesight.
