Antique H. Eicke Berlin #2 Automatic Coffee Maker Kaffeemaschine

German inventor Hermann Eicke patented this design in Berlin, Germany in 1878. Unlike the glass siphon machines of the period, Eicke's uses steam pressure to drive hot water out of the reservoir and through the grounds. As the reservoir empties, the balance shifts, causing the alcohol burner lid to close, ending the brewing cycle.

This machine is an exquisite example in fine condition, likely from later in the 20th century. Though the coffee pot fits okay and matches the porcelain base, we do not believe it is original to the set.

The dimensions are about 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep by 13 1/4 inches tall, weighing 5 1/2 pounds.
