Opelu Lure (OP).  Runs on the center outrigger, alternating with the Killer Froggie (KF).  Caught a 585-pound Marlin on the 9-inch lure (OP-9S) off the Penguin Banks.  We caught the marlin flat footed on the 40 fathom ledge.  I held the same speed until things settled down, then dropped throttle.  He was way out there, jumping.  I told the crew to lock the drag on the 130 International reel and we had to chase down the fish to get line back.  At one point when the fish went down, I had to go over the fish to protect it from the boats coming down the ledge.  Praying that the marlin would not come up jumping, I hailed the boats to give us room.  Eventually, we got the fish.  This color has caught everything.  

Once we were on the 500 fathom ledge leading to Molokai from Oahu.  About 20 miles out from Oahu, the center outrigger dropped with the 7 inch Opelu lure.  All it did was pull drag slowly at trolling speed.  HUH?  I thought we snagged rubbish.  No splashing or jumping was visible.  Then the reel started peeling line faster and faster.  Next thing I knew, it was screaming.  I called for “Lock Drag” and slammed on the throttle and turned the boat in the direction of the line.  We just started the chase when the fish came off.  I believe this was a big Marlin.  This also happened off the Waianae coast on my 17-foot Glasply boat with the MF lure.

Lure:  Polished Resin.  7" 1 Hole.  Blue Pearlescense back, plum stripe and clear bottom.  Black Stripe design on the back with doll eyes.   

Outside skirt is light blue with glitter (black splatter paint design on back), clear with silver glitter bottom.  Newer skirts have a Pink Stripe down the back.   

Inside skirt is blue, yellow stripe and light pink bottom. 

Rigging:  1 or 2 Hook Rigging available.
