"Scott's Family Bible"

Printed and published by William W. Woodward in Philadelphia, 1816/1817/1818

The Fourth American Quarto Edition

Early American Holy Bible first published in this form by William Woodward in 1804, and reissued in 1810, 1811 and 1816/1818. Three very stout large quarto volumes in period calf leather bindings; spines in six compartments with ruling in gilt and with red and black leather title and series labels. Text printed in double columns; font size is larger for the text of the Bible and slightly smaller for the notes and observations by Scott that accompany the text.

Bindings remain sound. Front joint of Volume II is very tender with leather split over the joint and the board holding by the cords. Weakness in the leather over some other joints and a few partial splits to the leather. Volumes II and III have some surface scarring and patches of partial loss to the leather over the boards and board edges. Family record pages provided by the publisher at the front of Volume I have only a single undated entry. No other ownership marks. Pages not numbered; collated complete. Light toning and spotting to endpages; text of the Bible is generally bright and clean with just the expected light spotting and toning over the letterpress text. Uncommon complete American Family Bible.  Overall G++ to VG-
