Unusual novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett - writer of A Little Princess, The Secret Garden and Little Lord Fauntleroy.
That Lass O' Lowrie's was one of  FHB's earliest novels.

Looks lovely on the bookshelf. Good decorator's piece.

But also good story - for adults rather than children. A tale of Victorian social injustice in the mould of Elizabeth Gaskell or Catherine Cookson.
In That Lass O' Lowrie's,  heroine Joan Lowry is a feisty pit-girl in a grim northern mining village.
She lives with her brutal father, but stands up to him, protects other vulnerable people, and is an impressive figure in the community. So much so, that she wins the heart of a suitor far above her in the social scale. Happy Ending.

Hardback, published by Warne of The Strand, London in Victorian times  - 1894.
Attractive embossed dark brown leather (?) cover - gilding and figuring in good condition.
Some age foxing. No page loss or notable damage. Hinges solid.
The colour shows as a bit bright in pic 5 with the flash.
This copy has an interesting award label on the frontispiece, recording that in 1896 the book was presented to Annie Stockdale for her "regularity and punctuality".

Lovely collectable and decorative book from one of our classic women writers.
