Author Biography

Ken Miller was born and educated in Canberra. He joined the Australian Public Service and gained a four year cadetship in personnel administration that launched a long career in all aspects of human resource management in both the public and private enterprise sectors of Australian life. His public service career ended with a posting to the Trust Territory of Nauru as Senior Administrative Officer. After Nauruan Independence the Government appointed him as interregnum Principal Executive Officer and Public Service Commissioner, followed by two years as Secretary for Island Development and Industry reporting directly to the President. He then moved to private enterprise in Australia. Twenty years later he retired as General Manager Human Resources in Australia's largest textile and clothing manufacturing corporation spanning thirteen prominent companies. High points of his time in commerce included the introduction of comprehensive management training and a raft of other human resource development interventions into Australia's most diversified food manufacturing, engineering and research group. Then finally, key management involvement in industrial relations issues arising out of the decline of Australian clothing and textile manufacturing industries. This also exposed him to the human cost of structural change brought on by rapid growth through acquisitions and mergers, ending as it did with one of Australia's most spectacular corporate crashes. Now living in Far North Queensland, he and his wife Judy are finding time to enjoy long term interests, including writing. The story in this novel while not autobiographical, has been built on a number of episodes in their eventful lives.
