An early 20th century (1907) beech and elm scullery open armchair with turned legs and spindle supported arms.

The back of the seat has the date 1907 stamped into it and a pair of initials "JM" most likely the estate worker that made it - normally paid by the piece the makers initials were stamped into the item as proof of completion.

This is very much a 'working man's/woman's chair' - most likely found downstairs rather than upstairs (think Downton Abbey)

The elm seat is well worn with 100 years of seated owners. The chair is very comfortable and in good sturdy condition. An excellent authentic example of an early C20th country chair with many years of use left in it - would look good in any setting and definitely in a kitchen, by a fire or in a boot room.

Approximate measurements:

  • Seat back height = 36" / 90cm
  • Seat height = 17" / 43cm
  • Seat width at back = 16.5" / 42cm
