This beautiful card was issued by the W.Duke Sons and Co. as an insert premium in their brands of Honest Long Cut Tobacco and Cigarettes during 1889.  These cards are from a fairly scarce series of 50 cards entitled, “YACHT COLORS OF THE WORLD” This series has been designated as N91 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue.  The front of the card features a FAMOUS THEATRE ACTRESS of the day, dressed in the colors of a particular yacht club.  The card also features the YACHT CLUB PENNANT for the club.  The back features a list of all of the cards in the series as well as advertising for Duke’s Cigarettes.   This card features DOROTHY DENE in the colors of the COLUMBIA YACHT CLUB   The Lithography for the card was done by Knapp and Co.  of New York   The Cards measures 2 3/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches approximately.  This would make a super gift for anyone interested in early sailing, yachting or Victorian theatre.  The card appear to be factory cut slightly askew, it has some corner and edge wear and some areas of discoloration to the back.  It is free from major creases.  I have scanned the cards fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
