This mantel scarf dates to 1887-1888 and is constructed of a greenish wool material with a strip of crazy quilting down the center along with wonderful stitching. It is lined with red cotton. It was clearly made in the year 1887-1888 as seen by the dates embroidered at each end! It has chenille dangling trim all along one side that is for the most part, in excellent condition. It appears that the scarf was fastened to a mantel at one time by tacks or perhaps small brads as there are holes down the back side of it. There are also two spots of whitish residue on it, that will probably scrape off, or wash off. I have made no attempt at cleaning or repairing it and will leave this to the new owner. I acquired this, along with another crazy quilt runner at the same estate sale as much of the vintage clothing I have listed this week. Please see all of my photos and ask any questions prior to bidding. Good Luck!
