Description:
ATMOS Model V, CALIBRE 526
A GREAT LOOKING ATMOS CLOCK, IN
PERFECT WORKING CONDITION
Up for
your consideration is an ATMOS Clock, Model
V, Calibre No. 526 as distinguished by the type of Balance (pendulum) and the
width of the support plate. This clocks serial number is 77936 indicating
it was manufactured in Switzerland in late August of 1955.
The
Amos Model V is a smaller version of the larger ATMOS Model III and ATMOS
Model VIII which could make it easier to fit in with your home décor.
ATMOS
clocks are delicate instruments which use small temperature
changes (1 to 2 degrees C) to drive a bellows to
wind the main spring. And since the temperature is always changing in a
house or a room, the ATMOS clocks main
spring is constantly being wound to run the clock. Thus, ATMOS
clocks do not ever require winding (not once a day, not once a
week or not once every 400 days). Once set and in position an ATMOS clock
will continue to run for as long as 5 to 10 years without any attention keeping
very reliable time. The only reason to stop an ATMOS
clock is to clean it. And since the movement, balance and
bellows motor are contained in a glass and metal case, protected from normal
air borne particles such as dust and moisture, cleaning is very seldom
required.
Even
though this clock is 68 years old, it is in excellent condition. As seen
from the pictures the case is in extremely good condition with only a few small
scratches which are normal for a clock of its age. There is no loss or
thinning of the gold plating on the case parts. There are no scratches or
chips on the front door, side, back or top glass panels.
The 15
jewel movement has been ultrasonically cleaned and assembled with no
lubrication as specified by Le Coultre. The bellows motor is in good
condition and drives the clock well. The clock has been adjusted and runs
well. ATMOS clocks can easily be adjusted to
an average error of less than 1 to 5 seconds per week. Some minor
adjustment will probably be required after shipping. The balance rotates
approximately 450 degrees per each half cycle or half minute an indication of a
well adjusted movement. The poise has been set so this clock is ready to be
positioned in a place of distinction in your home or office. It has run
flawlessly in my home for over six months.
As can
be seen in the close-up pictures of the face, the finish is almost flawless.
The original manufacturers mark, “Le Coultre” on the front of the movement and “SWISS”
under the "6", is clear and flawless on the face.
For
shipping, the clock will be double boxed with plenty of packing material around
the clock and between the boxes. Detailed instructions will be sent with the
clock for setting it up, leveling, adjusting the time, starting and caring for
it.
