Stunning Butterfly brooch by John Aitkin & Son of Birmingham; well known for their exquisite enamel designs.

A sweet antique butterfly brooch from the early 20th Century fashioned in sterling silver with shimmering guilloche enamel artistry across the front.

The body is highlighted in lime green and contrasted with icy blue

wings with deep navy tips & displaying lifelike detailing and four red polka dots.

Guilloche enamel dates to the 17th century. The process involves metal carefully worked by a lathe, or "Rose Machine" into a decorative pattern and overlaid with a colourful enamel to create a striking and highly detailed work of art.
