An original watercolour by listed artist Ellen Warrington (active in the 1930s).

This is a lovely view of a fabulous garden in Summertime.  A pathway goes through an arbour which is festooned with a flowering pink rose. The raised area in the foreground is carpeted with blue flowers and there is tall fir tree beyond. A tree lined lawn visible beyond. Superbly captured sunlight and colour.

Signed  lower left 'Ellen Warrington' and is inscribed verso 'American Pillar and Anchusa, Castle Hill, Englefield Green'. Note American Pillar is the name of the rose and Anchusa is the blue flower in the foreground.  Castle Hill is a Grade ll listed eighteenth century mansion with extensive gardens in Englefield Green, Surrey.

Ellen Warrington painted a series of topographical garden scenes, a number of which were reproduced as postcards by Tucks in a  1930s series called 'All in a Garden Fair'.  This is perhaps one of those.

Painted in watercolours on paper and float mounted to white card which is set within an ivory coloured card mount with a antique style gilt wood frame.  Both the mount and the frame are in excellent condition.

Glazed and ready to hang. Apologies for flash/reflection in some of the photographs where they have been taken through the glass.

Measures 46 x 39cm including the frame.  The painting only is 21 x 29cm.

Postage £8 to mainland UK, £26 to mainland Europe and £50 to the USA.

Ellen Warrington is known for her flower and garden paintings. She is recorded as exhibiting in the 1930s at the Royal Academy, the Society of Women Artists, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, from an address in Streatham.  There are a number of auction records for her garden views with prices to £250.
