MARVELOUS Kurt Meyer Eberhardt (German, 1895 - 1977)

Original Etching of an Eagle, Hand Signed

  • A river and castle ruins are discernable in the background
  • An hand tinted copper etching done after the German painter, graphic artist and illustrator Kurt (also Curt) Meyer-Eberhardt, considered as one of the finest copper engravers and animal artists of the 20th century
  • His adept depictions of animals (drypoint color etchings), often aimed at emotion and wit. These were printed by Hanfstaengl Verlag from 1916, a copper print shop in Munich, who owns the copyright to his archive.
  • His early work up until the early 1920's reflects various art movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as Bauhaus, Expressionism and Cubism. He created drypoint etchings that were typical of the time, mostly addressing fringe groups and suggesting both melancholic and satirical tones.
  • Later on he turned towards an impressionistic and naturalistic influenced art,
  • His later painting and graphic work - above all landscapes, animal portraits and still-lives - are regarded as a contribution to the tradition of a realistic Munich school.
  • The etching is pencil signed, framed and matted with expensive cork sheet. Lower left is discernible the dry stamp of the Hanfstaengl Verlag atelier
