Up for auction is a Federal clear depression glass 9 ½inches diameter plate in the “Mayfair” pattern.

Federal Glass Company was founded in 1900 in Columbus, Ohio producing glass with etched patterns using molds and hot liquid glass. By the late 1930s, Federal produced a broad range of kitchen wares, including plates, bowls, condiment servers, refrigerator dishes, mixing bowls, egg cups, sherbet dishes, vases, teapots, and teacups.  The Federal Paper Board Company purchased Federal Glass Company in 1958. Despite the ownership change, Federal maintained its status as one of America’s top glass ware brands. In the 1960s and 1970s, Federal launched a successful spun glass line with intricately etched designs that included Mayfair. After nearly eighty years in business, Federal Glass ceased operation in 1979.

The glass plate is in great used condition with no chips or significant scratches (see pictures). There are internal to surface stress cracks typical in Depression glass.

Size: Approximately 9 ½ inches diameter with an edge height of ¾ inch.
