Orthosyphon is an evergreen tropical herbaceous shrub up to 50-70 cm tall. Leaves 2-7 cm long, opposite, oval, broadly lanceolate, with a wedge-shaped base, with an uneven rough-toothed edge and smoky vein. Chemical composition
The therapeutic effect of kidney tea is due to the amount of biologically active substances contained in the plant: triterpene saponins (amirin derivatives), glycosides (orthosyphon), alkaloids, flavonoids, organic acids (tartaric, citric, phenolcarboxylic), many potassium salts tannins, fat (up to 2.7%) and essential oil (0.2-0.7%), sterols (b-sitosterol) and others.
Pharmacological properties
