Singer 317 very tough, strong Sewing Machine, body and base are cast alloy, very strong and rigid.

Much lighter weight than the cast iron classic black Singers which it replaced. 

All of the drive mechanism is made of metal including the gears which quite often fail on later models with plastic gears. It is great for general sewing and repairs.

It will sew yacht sails, sailcloth, leather, canvas, webbing, denim. 

Stitch lengths from 0mm to 4mm, zigzag function and backstitching reverse switch which doesn't need to be manually held down, leaving two hands free to control the material.

Fitted with new needle, plus four new heavy duty needles included, hem guide and two needle threaders.

Also comes with receipt, instruction manual, carry bag and metal extension table all original.

It is in good condition just a couple of very small paint chips and slight discoloured patches.

Cleaned, serviced, PAT tested on day of listing.

Runs free and sews well . 

It comes with original foot pedal and attached power lead, new power plug fitted.

If a machine runs continuously when foot pedal is connected the capacitor has failed.

The foot pedal had been stripped cleaned and a new 400 volt capacitor fitted. 

The original was 250 volts and it lasted 55 years, it wasn't faulty but replaced as a precaution.

Built in light works.

It has been thoroughly cleaned internally and externally, oiled with Singer sewing machine oil, new needle fitted, timing checked and tested.

It can be used as a free standing machine and it will fit in a flip down type table with round hinge lugs 24.5cm centres. The base of the machine is 16.5 inches x 7 inches.

The zigzag feature also makes it suitable for sail repairs for yachts and sailing dinghies
