You are bidding on an original Vintage CRAFTSMAN Double Oval Logo Hatchet/Hand Axe With The Original Octagonal Handle (see pics). The cutting edge on this axe/hatchet is the original factory ground edge (see pics). In other words the bit has "NEVER" been sharpened after the axe left the factory nearly 80+ years years ago ((see pics). Just some very very minor chips and nicks on the cutting edge, hardly noticeable at all (see pics). The poll end has some hammer marks on it, and a few chips on the edges of the poll (see pics). The poll end also has some mushrooming too (see pics). The axe head has scrapes, scratches, ding marks and pitting on all sides of it, all of these things are normal for a vintage axe head like this one is (see pics). The axe/hatchet head is securely mounted to the original octagonal hickory handle, not loose at all, but the axe head is not totally seated on the handle (see about 1/8" cap between the axe head and handle, see pics). But like I said the head is very securely mounted (see pics). Just under the poll end of the axe head (the shoulder part of the handle) some one, at some point in time put some wood putty or wood filler on the wooden shoulder (see pics). My guess is that there were some over hit marks on the handle in that spot (see pics). The CRAFTSMAN logo is still clear and deep (see pics). The hatchet is 13-1/2" long. The head is 5-1/8" long, with a 3-1/8" wide bit. And the hatchet weighs in at 1 pound 8.0 oz.
