Vintage Black Lacquer Handpainted Trinket Box

Hinged box features painting of a man holding a scarlet flower & his daughter.  It's a "Russian analogue of "Beauty & the Beast" recorded by Sergey Aksakov", telling the fairy tale story of the present his daughter wanted from his next voyage.

Fine details of their costumes are surrounded by a floral border, with more floral details on sides of box.   Signed on top face (but I cannot read it).  Inside is a certificate noting the arising is "Fett."  A small paper inside notes the origin as Fedoskino, the site of the country's oldest lacquer miniature industry.    No backstamp on underside of piece.

about 5 3/4"  x 4" x 1" tall

These boxes are constructed of paper-mache.  Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box, while red lacquer completes the interior of the box.  Hinge works well. Shiny Black lacquer is in great condition with slight bubble in one corner under lid, otherwise no chips or issues.

New/Old Stock. My mother purchased several of these boxes on a Smithsonian led trip to (Russia) approx date 2000.  They have been in the bag ever since. ***See my other listings for vintage Russian black lacquer boxes.  Buy several and save on shipping.**
