British artist Tim Fowler uses bright colours and broad strokes to create abstract mixed media paintings. Depicting scenes of modern cityscapes and distorted portraits, Tim’s distinctive use of bright and saturated colours makes for paintings that have a Pop Art tone to them. Tim works across acrylic, graffiti ink and spray paint to respond to fairly traditional subjects, and in doing so rejects the outdated conventions of these popular genres. The colour pink ties so much of Tim’s work together. Whether used to capture light, create movement or instil emotion, the dominance of pink throughout his practice gives a warmth to each of his paintings.

His explorations in tone and texture are mainly depicted through portraiture and architectural paintings. He uses a variety of medium within his work combining oil, acrylic, spray, enamel and graffiti inks. Tim subverts traditional and contemporary methods of applying these mediums using brushes, different aperture caps and marker paint mops to orchestrate purposeful marks, strokes, drips, scrapes and smears across the canvas whilst constructing his exciting and dynamic artworks.

Using found and made images as a starting point Tim builds layers of pigment, adding abstract fragments, bold marks, broken lines and liberal strokes to create contours and features. He works intuitively, combining oil, acrylic, spray, enamel and graffiti inks. Each composition is a physically demanding event which can occasionally require scaffolding and some unexpected tools, from broad brushes to long handled marker paint mops, to effect purposeful marks, strokes, drips, scrapes and smears across the canvas.

Tim has sold his work in the UK, Europe and the USA. His collectors include Touchlight Genetics, BT, singer-songwriter Mahalia, and the New Walk Museum in Leicester
