Vintage French Bronzed Spelter ?? Statue Sculpture Napoleonic Soldier HERVIEUX.

Please examine all photos thoroughly as these form the basis of this description and condition report. Zoom into the photos to see closer detail.

Condition is used, signs of wear from age and use. Although I do not know how old this to be, similar items I have seen listed for sale suggest 19th century. My view is this is likely mid to late 20th century. Therefore be sure to conduct your own thorough research as my references are purely based on my limited personal research and or opinion.

Made from metal, with a bronze appearance I would think this is some form of shelter, but I don’t know for sure. Weighing just over 1.8kg, it is heavy and cold to touch.

There is a signature mark to the back, which looks like HERVIEUX. I haven’t been successful in finding this name on any other metal sculpture or statues, although I’ve found similar style statues with the exact same plinth they’ve been signed with a different name.

There is a crack/split in the metal at the rear, just above the signature/name. The split goes from roughly the back of the man’s left foot around the back and towards the rear of the right foot. Although this has damage, it isn’t visible from the front view. I would suggest the damage wouldn’t be an issue if this is simply being displayed and not continually being handled.

My auction start price reflects the existing condition.
