Antique Punch Magazine Brass Book Cover

Produced as part of a special limited edition of the magazine with very beautiful embossed detail.

The cover features iris and peony flowers around the border and has Punch centre stage with a paint brush in his hand. There is a canvas on an easel showing a picture of a Lion wearing a crown, which presumably Punch has painted. Toby the dog is also featured prominently wearing a feathered hat and ruff.

My research suggests this is either from the Silver Jubilee Edition on 1 May 1935 or from edition CX11 in 1897. Both of these seem to feature this ornate cover plate from internet sources.

The cover plate has been self bound to enclose a hand-typed manuscript called 'War Commentary (according to R.L.K.)'

22cm x 29cm

Please see images for full condition report and details. This is an item of age so there are marks, discolouration and dents to the cover plate. Seven holes have been added to the left hand side to enable a leather cord binding to be wrapped through. If you have any questions about the condition please get in touch as there are no returns.
