Antique Olive Wood Humidor Trinket Box Souvenir of CYPRUS, Made in Jerusalem


  • Here is a very fine box with a hinged lid
  • Stenciled silhouette decoration up top, in black - displaying a donkey-back piper, two camels, a shepherd and goat in front of a palm tree
  • Above, in the upper left is a silhouette of the Island of Cyprus 
  • Made of olive wood, polished and finished
  • Manner of production is characteristic of items made for the pilgrimage trade in the Holy Land, notably Jerusalem
  • As both Jerusalem (then a part of the Mandatory Protectorate of Palestine) and Cyprus were under British Rule at the time, the box was most likely made in what is now Israel and Palestine and exported to Cyprus for the tourist trade
  • Early 1900's
