This rare Gorham teapot was crafted in 1891 and was specifically made for the California State Senate. The Teapot was presented to Frank Brandon in 1892.  Francisco "Frank" J. Brandon was a native of San Jose who was trained as an accountant. After working for several years as a clerk and bookkeeper, he became secretary to the State Senate from 1886 to 1905. After that, he had a successful real estate and insurance business in San Jose. He was also an expert in handwriting. He died in San Jose on July 23, 1915, at the age of 56 years, nine months. He was survived by his wife, Amanda C. Brandon; his son, of the same name as his father, died several years earlier. He was an active member of the Elks. (San Jose Evening News, July 23, 1915; San Jose Mercury, July 24, 1915.)
