This fantastic tobacco card (also referred to as a cigarette card)  was issued by the KINNEY BROS. Tobacco  Co. as an insert premium in their brands of Tobacco and Cigarettes during 1889.  This card is  from a fairly scarce series of 25  cards entitled , “NAVAL VESSELS OF THE WORLD This series is designated as N226 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue.  The front of the card features a stunning image of a Naval Ship with the nationality and name of the ship,, while the back features a list of the 25 vessels  in the series.   The Lithography for the cards is exceptional.   This card features The BRITISH SHIP H.M.S. DREADNAUGHT . Here is some information I found about the ship online HMS Dreadnought was an ironclad turret ship built for the Royal Navy during the 1870s. Construction was halted less than a year after it began and she was redesigned to improve her stability and buoyancy. Upon completion in 1879, the ship was placed in reserve until she was commissioned in 1884 for service with the Mediterranean Fleet. Upon her return 10 years later, she became a coast guard ship in Ireland for two years. The ship then became a depot ship in 1897 before she was reclassified as a second-class battleship in 1900. Dreadnought participated in the annual fleet manoeuvres for the next two years before she became a training ship in 1902. The ship was taken out of service three years later and sold for scrap in 1908.

The Card measures 2 ¾  inches by 1 ½  inches  approximately.  The card has what I believe to be thin paper adhered to the back, it is so thin you can see throught it to most of the back text.  It is free from creases  I have scanned the cards fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.  This card would make an excellent display piece for anyone interested in Early Naval or Nautical History.  Don't miss out on this over 125 year old piece (a true America antique).

I  will be trying to list several  EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes , Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds,  Circus themes and many more.  To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click  on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page.
