The Warren Spahn Story, Milton J Shapiro. Hardcover. List price: $2.95

In 1964, Warren Spahn sued Milton Shapiro for $175,000, stating that the biography was unauthorized and violated his privacy. Spahn was awarded $10,000 in May 1964 by the New York State Supreme Court. The verdict was overturned in 1968. Per the 1968 New York Times article, the book was published in 1958.

Edition: The book is undated, however the book was entered into the Library of Congress in 1958. Copyright page states: "Library of Congress Card No. 58-7258" with no other printings listed. Later printings state "© copyright 1958, 1959" with a print number following and by the 5th printing, in 1962, the dust jacket price was $3.25. This book has no printings listed and the dust jacket price was $2.95. It is believed to be a first edition, first printing.

Condition: Book is in good condition in a poor dust jacket. Binding and page block are square and tight. Pages are lightly toned. Small dark spots at the bottom of pages 97-102; otherwise clean. Boards have light handling wear with some spotting. Text and graphics are sharp. Spine has rubbing at the top and bottom. Dust jacket has heavy handling and edge wear, a four in closed tear at the edge of the spine, minor loss at the top and bottom of the spine with chips along the edges, and taped repair at the top of the front panel. Please review all photos.
