GERMANY: THE THIRD REICH 1933-1945

3rd edition

by Geoff Layton

First published by Hodder Murray, 2005

This reprint of the 3rd edition published 2010

Ex public library paperback with fitted plastic library overcover, 17.5 x 24.5 cm, iv +218 pages, with black & white photographs and illustrations within the text.

The library fitted plastic overcoverremains complete and in very good condition, still continuing to provide excellent additional protection to the paperback cover underneath.

The spine of the book is square and uncreased. The rest of the paperback cover has been similarly well shielded and remains is in very good, undamaged condition.

The binding is tight and secure with no loose or detached pages

The marks of previous public library ownership are as follows (see pictures):

  • Small catalogue sticker on the bottom of the spine, underneath the plastic overcover
  • Library barcode and catalogue stickers on the title page, with surface traces alongside the hinge from the neat and careful removal of a previous library lending sheet (small edge mark from rubber stamp which must have strayed over the edge of the lending sheer
  • Blank library (security?) sticker under the inner flap of the plastic overcover on the inside of the back cover

Apart from the points noted above, the inside of the book is unmarked and the printed contents remain in very good, clean condition throughout.

Whilst this is clearly an ex-library copy of the book, the residuals from library ownership are relatively minimal and I would suggest that the negative aspects of these are significantly outweighed by the protective and stiffening benefit that continues to be provided by the library fitted (but still removable) plastic overcover.

COVER NOTES

"The third edition of this bestselling title has been revised to reflect the needs of the current specifications. The title charts the emergence of Nazism to Hitler's consolidation of power in 1933-4. It analyses the economic and foreign policies of the Third Reich and provide an in-depth look at the Nazi system and how that impacted on various social and cultural groups. The issue of support and opposition to the regime is examined and the appeal of Nazism discussed. It concludes by assessing the legacy of the Third Reich and how different historical interpretations of this period have developed over time.

Throughout the book key dates, terms and issues are highlighted, and historical interpretations of key debates are oultlined. Summary diagrams consolidate knowledge and understanding of the period, and exam-style questions and tips for each examination board provide the opportunity to develop exam skills."
