A VERY FINE AND WELL EXECUTED EARLY 19TH CENTURY NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, SIGNED AND DATED; "ANN GARLICK FINISHED THIS WORK DEC 21, 1837".
IN FINE BLACK WOOL THREAD ON A VERY FINE LINEN BACKGROUND WITH A SIMPLE BORDER.
IT HAS THE ENTIRE 1799 HYMN BY JOHN NEWTON.
THE BOTTOM WITH HER NAME AND DATE THE SAMPLER WAS FINISHED.
THE PIECE IS IN FINE CONDITION AND STILL HAS VERY BOLD COLORS.
THE USE OF ONLY BLACK THREAD IS QUITE UNUSUAL.
IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY FRAMED AND MOUNTED ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO.
THE SAMPLER IS IN MUCH BETTER IN PERSON.
THE HISTORY WE GOT WITH THE SAMPLER, IS THAT ANN GARLICK WAS BORN IN PENNSYLVANIA OR OHIO AROUND 1825.
WE DID A QUICK NAME SEARCH AND COULD NOT MATCH HER BUT FURTHER RESEARCH SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN.
A NICE BRIGHT AND WELL PRESERVED EXAMPLE THAT IS READY TO HANG.
GREAT CONDITION WITH ONLY THE MOST MINOR OF LOSSES AND FADING, (SEE PHOTOS).
Frame is 14 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" wide, sampler is 11 1/2" tall by 10 1/2" wide.
WE HAVE NOT REMOVED THE PIECE FROM THE FRAME.
