Diego Velazquez 1599-1660, EL AGUADOR DE SEVILLA,

1 oz .999 Silver

Velázquez was a genius at what he did, that is indisputable. He could already paint a religious, mythological or traditional scene, everything turned out well.

This is one of his early works, when he was training in Seville. Still, the technique is incredible.

The protagonist of the painting is an old water carrier, a job that consisted of going from one place to another selling drinking water, a very common job at that time, when the water supply had not yet been normalized everywhere. He offers a glass ( please appreciate the object itself, which seems to shine as if it were real glass and not painted) to a young man all dressed in black, except for the wide, white collar of his shirt that stands out. , and grabs the cup with his fingers, without looking at the water bearer.

There is a third man between them, who Velázquez blurs with the background of the painting. The man, in the shadows, is drinking from a small jug.

The best thing about this painting is without a doubt the details, especially the objects or pots: the fine crystal cup that we have already mentioned, the giant amphora held by the old water carrier, an amphora that seems to come out of the painting, and that is astonishing for its realism and how Velázquez has recreated himself to paint the details: not only does he perfectly draw the marks left by the wheel as it is a piece of ceramic, he also adds some droplets of water, which ooze and come out of the interior, falling or slowly sliding down the amphora, leaving a wet trail that will soon dry. However, Velázquez bothers to recreate that moment.

Already on the table, we see another smaller pottery pot, also designed to fill its interior with water. In this case, add some dents. At the top, a cup acts as a lid.
