Modernist gouache painting Balloon Man by Anna McClure Sholl (1868-1956), listed New York artist, gouache on Royal-Crest illustration board, 20" by 14 3/4", identified/titled on label adhered to original backing board, under Museum Glass in vintage Heydenryk-style wormy chestnut frame, 25 1/2" by 20 1/2".  Painting shows a man descending stairs with arms aloft with multiple balloons afloat, background suggests a city skyline, probably NYC.  Artist was educated at Cornell University and was primarily self-taught artistically, was member of Studio Guild, Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, and National Arts Club.  Condition very good, thick areas of paint application show fine network of craquelure with a few tiny losses, support board appears to have been originally colored blue and has faded, gouache maintains vivid coloration, frame without damage.
