MaisonIkkoku (Japaneseめぞん一刻HepburnMezonIkkoku,"Ikkoku House") is a Japanese manga serieswritten and illustrated by RumikoTakahashi.It was serialized in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine BigComic Spirits fromNovember 1980 to April 1987, with the chapters collected into15 tankōbon volumes. MaisonIkkoku isa romanticcomedy involvinga group of eccentric people who live in a boarding house in 1980sTokyo. The story focuses primarily on the gradually developingrelationships between YusakuGodai,a poor student down on his luck, and KyokoOtonashi,a young, recently widowed boarding house manager.


In "Bedside Manners", the sixth graphic novel from MAISON IKKOKU, Kyoko and Godai meet at the fair; 
for her last show before returning to the countryside, Grandma Godai organizes a dream date for her timid grandson; 
finally, we meet the mysterious Mr. Ichinose; Kentaro asks Kyoko and Godai to pretend to be his aunt and uncle for the purposes of a three-legged race; 
an argument over Kozue's hand-knitted sweater sends Kyoko overboard; a pretty country cousin comes to care for a Godai who is now hospitalized; 
and finally, Coach Mitaka's admission to Godai's next bed redefines the term "Bedside Manners" forever.
