Original poster printed in spring 1918 to advertise 1918-19 as the "Year of Children" in the United States, an initiative to promote the health and well-being of youth in the context of the First World War. The poster and the initiative it advertised were sponsored by two subcommittees of the National Defense Council: the newly-created National Children's Bureau and the Woman's Committee.

Artist is Francis Luis Mora, a Uruguayan-American painter who specialized in finely detailed, realistic portraits (individual and group).

Poster measures 20 x 30 inches and is newly linen-backed on 7 oz cotton duck and acid-neutral paper with an alkaline reserve to counteract future toning and deterioration of the paper. Excellent condition; no fold lines because poster was always kept rolled. There are two photos, one with and one without flash.

Poster will ship rolled in a heavyweight tube. Flat $20 shipping fee for lower 48 US states. Actual shipping charged to other destinations using a carrier of the buyer's choice.

I have been collecting, linen-backing, and restoring vintage posters for over 20 years. I work regularly with serious collectors and resellers across the US, Canada, Europe, and even Australia. I do better work and charge less than any of the high-volume, "professional" companies in the field. Please contact me if you would like information about rates, references, or photos of prior restoration projects. I am happy to give binding estimates based on high-resolution photos.
