AN EXTREMELY RARE 19TH CENTURY ENFIELD, CT SHAKER COMMUNITY TIN SIDE SPOUT COFFEE POT WITH ITS ORIGINAL PEAKED DOME COVER WITH TIN FINIAL, ITS ORIGINAL HANDLE ALL IN AN OLD UNTOUCHED SURFACE AND PATINA.
A CLASSIC FORM OF SHAKER TIN WARE.
WE SEE THEM OCCASIONALLY BUT CERTAINLY NOT WITH THE PROVENANCE AS THIS ONE.
ENFIELD, CT COMMUNITY, CIRCA 1840-1860.
A FANTASTIC PIECE DIRECTLY FROM THE NORTH FAMILY OF ENFIELD, CT SHAKERS.
ALTHOUGH THE ENFIELD, CT SHAKER COMMUNITY WAS CLOSED IN 1917, THE NORTH FAMILY DISBANDED IN 1913.
A FEW OF THE REMAINING SHAKERS FROM THE NORTH FAMILY DID NOT MOVE UP TO THE SHAKER COMMUNITY IN MAINE BUT RATHER ASSIMILATED BACK INTO THEIR NON-SHAKER FAMILIES IN ENFIELD.
THIS GREAT TIN POT WAS ONE OF THOSE PIECES THEY BROUGHT OUT WITH THEM WHEN THEY LEFT.
I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE NEALY ALL OF THE ITEMS THAT THEY BROUGHT OUT.
MANY OF THESE PIECES WERE DISPLAYED OVER THE YEARS AT ANTIQUE FAIRS AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY EXHIBITS.
A GREAT EXAMPLE OF EARLY SHAKER COMMUNITY TIN WARE.
THIS WAS PROBABLY MADE BY THE SHAKER TINSMITH RIGHT IN ENFIELD.
Minor surface losses as seen with some old surface rust as seen.
There are a couple of tiny pin-prick holes repaired in the bottom, (see photos).
11 3/4" tall and 6 1/4" across.
Typical wear and imperfections with age.
