Antique Brandon Mfg. Co. with Howe's patents. Cast Iron & Brass 8# Balance Scale Circa late 1800's.

BRANDON MFG Co. weight scale Established 1857 in Brandon, Vermont.
—Incorporated by special act of the Legislature of Vermont in the year 1868.
From the company's history:
"These modern scales have their bearings completely protected from frost and ice; and from the relief given their knife edges by a system of balls in the Howe patent, they are unerringly correct at all times."
"Sole General Agents for New-England & Canada: A. A. Frazar & Co."

BRANDON MFG Co. bought the patents of both Howe and Sampson and used exclusively in all their weights and scales.
This Scale (“Howe’s” is located on brass lb. numbers in front) has a total weight of 5.2 lbs. ConsCast iron with brass holder is used. Not sure what the materiel inside the brass holder actually is. It reminds me a large clam shell but the material on the bottom-side seems like lead. These 2 items  weigh .8 lbs. The scale is 16"w x 6" x 8"h.
