A great find from a local New England estate!
This scarce antique book is over 156 years old!
Original publisher cloth binding shows wear as pictured, including rubbing, soiling and moisture staining to the boards and spine, a library catalog number written on the spine, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and some rubbing and soiling to the page edges. Binding is just ever so slightly cocked as well. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume! The gilt title lettering displays nicely from the shelf.
Internally, this volume is in good shape overall. Both boards and all page groupings remain firmly attached to the binding. There is some staining caused by early exposure to moisture visible on the front and rear endpapers, however this staining has not extended into the text block. This is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions.
The text block of this volume is clean throughout. Again, the staining visible on the exterior has not made its way into the rest of the volume. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, as well as some light foxing and soiling throughout, but otherwise this volume is clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings. Perfectly readable throughout!
