1 antique clear glass telephone or telegraph wire insulator. This is a Hemingray 42 insulator of clear glass which appeared around 1935. Once thousands and thousands sat atop telephone poles insulating the lines that ran all across the USA. As technology has advanced and continues to do so, these are going away. It is extremely rare to see them in use anymore.

Through the years different styles went into production. Naturally the older ones are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Those that survive being replaced have been used for crafts and home decor for many years. From candle holders to globs or shades for custom hand crafted light fixtures.

This is a great piece of Americana with Hemingray 42 molded into the glass on one side and “Made in U.S.A.” molded on the other.

These basic pieces of vintage equipment made cross country communications possible, first with telegraph then telephone. Both huge leaps in technology in their day.
