Louis XIV Document Signed. One page, 19 ¼ x 13 inches,Marly[-le-Roi]; March 6, 1698. Untranslated document addressed to "Bailly de Vesoul." The Chateau de Marly was completed thesame year that the Sun King signed this document. Lying halfway between thebustling court at Versailles and the palace at St. Germain-en-Laye, Marly was arefuge for Louis XIV. He only allowed access to a few privileged courtiers andetiquette there was significantly more relaxed, allowing the royal family andtheir guests to enjoy parties, gatherings, and hunting excursions.
