1865 2-CENTS & 1868 3-CENTS PAIR #4
GOOD OR BETTER DETAILS

Offered here is a pair of odd-denomination U.S. coins that represent the Two-Cent and Three-Cent (nickel) denominations.  The designs of both coins were created by then Chief Mint Engraver James B. Longacre.  The 2-Cent piece was the first U.S. coin to bear the “IN GOD WE TRUST” motto, and this example is dated 1865!  The coin exhibits Good or slightly better details and is a fairly nice brown color.  The nickel 3-Cent piece is one of very few U.S. coins to use roman numerals to designate its denomination.  This example is dated 1868 and exhibits Very-Good details with some hints of a gold-tone here and there.  Note that there is an rather odd spot of toning on Miss Liberty’s neck!  Imagine the stories these old coins could tell … if they could talk -- and who may have once held them?!!
I do my best to grade and point out actual defects that go beyond normal circulation.  However, these old eyes occasionally miss things!  So, I suggest you view the provided photos closely, compare my coin(s) against others on Ebay, and then form your own opinion as to eye-appeal, grade and value!

These two coins actually trend for around $30.00 in undamaged condition in the
April 30, 2024 issue of Numismatic News magazine!

Please note that I scan my photos and any white specks/flecks on the pictured coins are just paper dust that was on the scanner bed.  The photos should otherwise be considered as a representation of “what you see is what you get”.
