WITH EXCELLENT PHOTO PLATES -

TOM BROWN (J.)

Among the Bantu nomads. A record of forty years spent among the Bechuana / a numerous & famous branch of the Central South African Bantu, with the first full description of their ancient customs, manners & beliefs.

(London): Seeley, Service & Co., 1845. First edition. 272, [24, pub. cat.] pp. With fold-out map and 16 full-page photo plates, as called for. Size: 8vo (21.8cm x 14.5cm).

Very Good to Good condition. Light sunning to spine and top edge of front board. Small pale spot to front board. Inner hinge just starting but boards and binding solid. Corners with small bumps. Intermittent light to moderate foxing to first 35 pages, a bit heavier to title page, preface and contents pages. Otherwise, only a few small spots here and there. Spotting to edges of text block. Map with 7cm closed tear where it joins text block, but no loss. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images closely.

The photo plates in this ethnological study of the nomadic Bantu people are especially impressive, and equally interesting and informative is the publisher's catalogue at the rear.
