The Evening Star - Washington DC, Saturday, December 12, 1914. No. 19,799.

The weather for Saturday (Dec. 12) is Fair tonight with freezing temperatures.

The banner says: “About everyone in Washington who reads at all reads The Star”

Offered here is a copy of The (Washington, DC) Evening Star for Saturday December 12, 1914. This issue in No. 19,799 (seems a lot!) and cost one cent. Headlines include the passage by the House (of Representatives) of the Johnson Amendment to the District of Columbia Appropriation, as well as news of the fighting in Europe (World War I). Also, above the fold on page one is a cartoon depicting FDR (Assistant Secretary of the Navy) as window shopping for ships for the Navy while his pockets are empty.

This paper offers a glimpse into the America and the World that our grandparents and great grandparents lived in at the beginning of World War I. We originally purchased it as a birthday gift for a grandparent who was born in that era.

It is offered as-is.

Needless to say 110 year old news print is quite brittle and yellowed. It will arrive in a clear plastic case and will need to be handled carefully. There is fraying, particularly on the left edge along the folds. It appears some of this may have occurred from being stapled into some sort of frame or binder, possibly in a library.

See the photos for an idea of the condition of this paper.
