Perennial, Papaver nudicaule, The large 4" papery blooms (looks like tissue paper or crinkled silk) open in shades of white, yellow, orange, pink, rose, and red as well as bicolors, on tall, slender stems, with feathery blue - green foliage.  Often an annual in the Southeast; grown as a perennial in the North.  All parts of this plant are toxic.  Seeds are tiny, sow carefully and use minimum or no covering.  Compressing the seeds into the soil is the best method for planting.  Self sows readily.  Sun.
