Brass-colored metal spring-loaded candle lamp. The back of the hood says “The Cambridge Reading Lamp No 2A Made Abroad.” This has a heavy weighted base (sounds like sand or something in the base), and a finish that has been distressed by age. I was not able to find one exactly like this for the purpose of determining its age.

I do not believe this would function as originally intended in its current state. It does have the internal spring which seems to be functional, but the cap that goes over the candle is missing a little piece to keep the spring from pushing it off once a candle is inserted. Not impacting function, it is also missing a small piece of chimney that would go on top of the hood. Lastly, there is a crack in the metal of the base - when removing or reapplying any of the pieces on the top, I would recommend holding the middle of the candlestick, as opposed to pushing down on the base.

This could be a cool collectors item, used for parts or repair, or used in someway with a candle in its current state. Please see all pictures for best representation of condition!
