An important Grueby Pottery tile, artist signed “D. C.” on the back, in a signed hammered copper base of the period. The copper base is hallmarked with H S with an anvil between. Glaze crazing throughout commensurate with age. In the upper right corner is a deeper craze line, as highlighted in the last image. The original buyer returned this believing it to be a crack, but this does not penetrate to the back side of the tile, and appears to me to be glaze deep. Small glaze miss in the lower right corner. Please review the images and use your judgment. The tile measures 4-1/8 inches square x 1 inch high copper base inclusive.
