This is the classic Sony TC-40, an historically significant device with the first built-in highly sensitive condenser microphone in a cassette recorder.  Manufactured by Sony in about 1972, it was followed by the metal-cabinet TC-50, and shares many similarities with that later model. Because of the built-in condenser mic, the TC-40 was marketed as the "Action-Corder", to gain the attention of busy executives, astronauts, or reporters who wanted to dictate their thoughts while on the go. This cassette recorder is also historically significant because it marks Sony's move into miniaturization in audio products and recording technology in particular that would lead to the Walkman revolution.

This example is in decent cosmetic condition, and shows scratches, rub marks and other minor flaws on the cabinet. The unit is included in the box with matching serial number. The carrying case is included, but has ripped seams. I plugged it into a Sony 6V adapter (not included), and the spindles turned. No other testing was performed.

I have been collecting transistor radios and TVs for more than 25 years, and am now "thinning" my collection. Most are like new in the box, so keep an eye on my auctions!

Shipping as stated is for residents of the continental USA. I will also gladly ship this outside the USA via the eBay Global Shipping Program, but if you reside outside the USA, please check if your country is on the eligible list before bidding.
