AN EXTREMELY RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY TABLE TOP FOUR (4) DRAWER "COLLECTION OR SPECIMEN" CHEST IN THE MOST SPECTACULAR ORIGINAL FANCY OCHRE AND MUSTARD YELLOW GRAIN PAINTED SURFACE.
PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1820-1840 IN POPLAR AND PINE.
THIS IS A KILLER OF A TABLE TOP CHEST.
THE CASE IS FULLY DOVETAILED AS ARE THE FOUR DRAWERS.
EACH DRAWER HAS DIFFERENT COMPARTMENTS, THE TOP WITH FOUR, THE SECOND WITH THREE, THE THIRD WITH TWO AND THE BOTTOM WITH ONE.
THESE SMALL SIZED COLLECTION CHESTS WERE MADE FOR THE GENTLEMEN TO HOLD THEIR COLLECTIONS OR SPECIMENS.
THE ENTIRE PIECE IS ALL ORIGINAL INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL HAND TURNED WOODEN KNOBS.
THE PAINT IS SPECTACULAR.
IT IS A VERY VIBRANT AND FANCY MUSTARD YELLOW AND OCHRE GRAINED DECORATION WITH THE BEST OLD PATINA AND COLOR.
THE INTERIOR OF THE DRAWERS STILL HAVE SOME OLD FELT AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS.
THE BACK BOARD IS A SINGLE POPLAR PLANK THAT IS ALSO PAINTED SO THE PIECE CAN BE VISIBLE FROM ALL SIDES.
A FANTASTIC ORIGINAL PAINTED PRIMITIVE.
The size is fantastic being only 14 3/4" tall and 16 1/4" wide and 10 3/4" deep.
The condition is great, no repairs or restorations, just the usual scrapes and bruises from over 200 years of use.
