"Hammond No. 7"
Typewriter.

This "Hammond" typewriter is, I believe, a model "No. 7" with a wider than normal carriage.
The length of the cage is 18 1/2 inches and the length of the support is 20 1/2 inches.

It is in "as found" condition.
The "Hammond" machine was invented in the early 1880's by James B Hammond, it used a type-shuttle and a spring loaded hammer arrangement in order for each letter typed to have a uniform appearance, this design was so successful that it was still being used in 1980's.
There appear to be some missing pieces, the paper table and wire support to the top has gone as well as one of its' the supports to one side, the lever to this side is also bent.
There are a number of loose springs and the ribbon holders are missing.
There may be other missing parts .

The platen and rollers have cracked and crazed.
The celluloid plaque has no cracks or chips, but the gold lettering has faded.
The celluloid to the space bar has lost one end.
The chrome and metal have retained some of their original finish, however, there are losses, tarnish and surface rust in places.
All of the keys are present, these have no major splits or cracks, the impressed letters, numbers, etc to most are legible but have worn and faded.
The serial number is "72676", this appears in two places.
I have tried to show the condition in the photographs, but please ask for more if you require them.
This would be ideal for spares or repair.
