"Abel Morall's"
"Flora Macdonald Needles"

Counter Top Cabinet.

This delightful "Abel Morrall's" "Flora Macdonald Needles" cabinet is in "as found" condition.
"Abel Morrall's" was founded in 1745 and was one of the many, world famous needle makers that were based in Redditch, Worcestershire in England.

This cabinet would have sat on top of a haberdashers shop counter to advertise and store packets of sewing needles.
It is made from light oak with a mirrored front, this has stylish writing with "Abel Morrall's, Flora Macdonald Needles" and a picture of a Flora Macdonald crewel needle pack and it also states that "needles stuck in flannel, easily replaced after use" next to an illustration of a selection of sewing needles. The bottom of the mirror says "Made in Redditch England".
The colour to the lettering and the illustrations is still strong and there is only minimal wear to the mirror.
The rear has 5 drawers which would hold the needle packs.
The drawers are a good fit and slide in and out well, four of the drawers have their original paper labels to the bottom.
The bottom drawer has a replacement handle.
The wood has taken on a fabulous depth of colour and patina over the years, however, there is a little separation to the joints on the top and one on the bottom, but the cabinet is strong and sturdy.
There are also the usual marks, scuffs and scratches that you would expect from a item of this age.
I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.
T
he cabinet measures 19 cm (7 1/2 inches) wide and is 32 cm (12 1/2inches) at its highest point. It is 22.5 cm (9 inches) at its deepest.
All in all, this lovely cabinet will have very many more years of service left to give.
